A wordless, sense-disrupting, gravity-defying 10-minute performance that turns your world upside down.
A collision between theatre and mindfuck: the performer hangs upside down (above a giant mirror), while your perspective is radically challenged.
In this unconventional, circus-like and high-energy performance, reality is bent to its breaking point.

Fly
This dizzying space odyssey begins with a simple bowl of soup and launches straight into the unknown.
G-forces, Adam's apples, weightlessness, and a runaway vacuum cleaner.
FLY cuts straight through the umbilical cord of fairytales, strangely touching in its absurdity.
Reality unravels into a universe brewed from broth, with fate waiting at the bottom of the bowl.

A short, sharp, and delightfully twisted performance that takes the audience behind the curtain to the place where everything goes wrong before it even begins.
Stage fright, forgotten lines, rising panic, and the less glamorous side of performing unravel in a whirlwind of visual effects and unexpected twists.

BOAT
A bizarre, furious, and delightfully absurd 10-minute performance, set inside half an airplane fuselage.
A surreal triptych full of chaos, illusion, and unexpected highs — where nothing is stable, and nothing is what it seems.
The audience boards this stranded wreck, only to be launched into a rollercoaster of boat rides, depth meters, and — yes — a full take-off.
In this wreck? Believe it. Buckle up!

About volDaan - Daan Mathot
volDaan is Daan Mathot; a multidisciplinary creator, performer, and musician of visually captivating (short) theatre performances.
With his own company volDaan, based in Leiden, the Netherlands, he travels the world.
From intimate stages to breathtaking locations everywhere, he brings his unique visual language and playful energy to the audience.
His work is an exploration of the visual and the unexpected. Wild, playful, and often jaw-dropping. Short but unforgettable, each performance is a new adventure that leaves the audience feeling like they've witnessed something truly different.

volDaan Theater is a unique theatre company based in Leiden, specializing in visual theatre.
We offer professional performances for both adults and children. A school-wide workshop for children, combined with- and inspired by the multimedia performance FLY, is also one of the possibilities.

Workshops en Educatie
FLY IN SCHOOL – Workshop and Performance
FLY IN SCHOOL is a fun, technical, and poetic multimedia workshop of approximately 60 minutes. Young people are visually challenged right to the edge of their seats and actively work with image, sound, and play.
The 15-minute performance FLY is performed twice: first openly and intuitively, purely through feeling and wonder; then a second time with more awareness, including assignments and reflection. This way, students discover how image and sound can shape their perspective, and how theater without words can be full of imagination.
The workshop is suitable for both primary schools (divided into lower/middle and upper grades) and secondary education, and is preferably held in a dimmable, easily accessible space (ground floor, wide door).
Daan Mathot of volDaan Theater brings years of experience in (music) workshops and working with children.
